For those of you unfamiliar with Michelle Paul you need to read this post to make any sense of what's happening here.
The other day Emily went to get Michelle out of her high chair and commented that Michelle needed to start wearing a diaper because she'd pooped in her high chair.
Unfortunately, Michelle needed more than a diaper as her bum was rotting and leaving coconut goo in the highchair. She might have gotten dropped a few hundred thousand times in her short life. Or it could just be that she's a coconut and not a baby doll.
It was quickly determined that an emergency was at hand. Doctor Mommy was paged and quickly performed triage, but it didn't look good. The tissue damage was extensive. The hemorrhaging couldn't be stopped. It was clear there wasn't much time. Relatives were called in to say their good-bye's. Michelle's mother was nearly hysterical with grief.
Since Doctor Mommy is no longer allowed to use power tools (we'll discuss this another time), a specialist was called in.
Dr. Mommy explained that Michelle's time was done but if we were lucky, we could toast the coconut and sprinkle it over some vanilla ice cream with hot fudge sauce and some whipped cream. Emily, being genetically linked to Dr. Mom, heard the word ice cream and immediately calmed down.
But, alas, Michelle was too rotten to eat. Dr. Mommy worried that Emily would be scarred by her loss, but she was wrong.
Emily moved on within minutes.
She has a new baby now...

Actually, she's had several of these. Her track record is a little spotty at this point.
But, practice makes perfect.
Right?

Oh, the end of an era.
At least she has some cute distractions. Hope they make it to be butterflies.
Sorry to hear about Michelle. I must now go back and read why you are not allowed to use power tools.
:-D
RIP Michelle
Oh my goodness! My heart is breaking after seeing the picture of her crying for Michelle! At least she had a nice (kind of) long life! And I'm glad Emily has a new distraction!
Sorry for her loss but I am sure you are dancing with joy. Sure led to some funny blogs though
It's always sad when food stuff dies. She had a good run. RIP.
I'm not allowed to use power tools, either...
Oh no! Your daughter looks completely devasted by Michelle's demise. Big hugs!
I love that kid. :)
R.I.P. Michelle
Ok - I was little freaked out at the beginning of this post. I was ready to WebMD rotting butts. :)
Did you order that butterfly thing off that informerical?!?!?!
I am so sorry for your loss. The picture of her crying brought tears to my eyes. I'm glad she's dealing with it ok. Thank God for caterpillars.
aww, poor mommy... the crying picture is heartbreaking...
i'm glad she's coping somehow. Grief management is very important.
RIP Michelle.
I hope Emily has fun with her caterpillar babies. And that those babies don't get loose in your house.
Oh no, poor Michelle.
Pooped in the high chair- oh too funny! Good thing caterpillars are pretty forgiving, or at least they were when I was a little girl! :)
This is equal parts heartbreaking and hilarious. Fly high, Michelle...
(whether you're allowed to use them or not, would you mind taking some of the multitude of power tools out of my garage?)
All things move on. I would blame Mario Lopez for it's death, of course.
I guess you could have stocked up on Michelle's and just replaced her each time she got a little soft in the bottom! Of course you would have had to replicate that darling face every time and that would have been a tough one!
I love caterpillars almost as much as coconuts!
So young, and already yet wise beyond her years. Ice cream does, in fact, mend a broken heart.
(LOVE the photo of her grief. Has a very Jack/Rose/Titanic feel to it.)
I agree, that pic pulls at your heartstrings. She really loved Michelle! Sorry to have to say good bye.
(But I must admit, I am shocked that thing lasted this long!)
So sorry to hear of your loss. You have my deepest sympathy and condolences.
What is she going to do when the caterpillars all go away to turn into butterflies?!?!?!??!?!?!
oh michelle, we hardly knew ye.
You will be missed - but the loss the icecream will be missed most of all...
You're raising a person that will eat her young...horrid! :)
Oh the grief of loosing a child. I can just see it in her face. Poor girl. But so glad to know that she has moved on so quickly.
Our Dear Michele left us way too soon. It's been a great journey. She touched more lives than she will ever know.
RIP

The end of an era! I'm glad the mourning process was not a long one!
Aww. I'm going to miss reading about Michelle.
Hope your daughter knows how cool her mom is for allowing and encouraging "Michelle." Love it.
Winks & Smiles,
Wifey
I would be crying right with Emily. It's hard to say goodbye to our loved ones.
When we lost our Beta fish, Calvin.......you don't even want to know how I reacted!! Needless to say my family will NOT allow me to get another pet.
Ooooh dat widdle face is soooo sad! I have to go buy her a coconut. And if it replaces the caterpillar, so much the better! (Then again, those little guys have a much shorter shelf life, I bet...)
Oh! That picture of her crying is heart wrenching! RIP Michelle! (You sooo knew it was great blog fodder while taking the pic, didn't you?! ;) )
at least you can't roast the caterpillar. . .
From the photo, it looks like Michelle's mother really is beside herself. Either that or she's a great actress.
Oh. The collection of catepillars. I've had my fair share.
I never did like the name Michelle anyway. LOL

Michelle looked wasted. Time to put her out of her misery.
We all new it was coming, it was only a matter of time. Her poor tragic face says it all. They do bounce back quickly though, don't they.
Rest in Peace Michelle
now a part of the Great Cosmic Tree.
What the heck do you have going on at your house? This reminds me of Wilson from the tom hanks movie when he was standed on the island!!!
Tom also cried when Wilson (the soccer ball) died!!!
I sped through the comments. Not one mention of Wilson. Maybe your kid would like to blog with my son??
I think both need some human interaction. Fluffy only goes so far!!
I have the best rant tomorrow. I feel so much better after posting it... and friday's post is just adorable!!! I may have to stop blogging both are so fabulous!!!
Awwwww! Poor Emily! R.I.P. Michelle... A moment of silence... ;)
Now if that caterpillar actually turns into a butterfly, that would be way cool! ;)
Hey its Spring, out with the old in with the new !!
Poor Emily!
The pic of her crying for her baby! OMG, that in itself is such a sad story!
Oh, poor Michelle. It's good to hear Michelle's mom was able to move on so quickly. She's a trooper. ;)
The picture of her crying is heartbreaking!!
She will make a good "real" mommy someday.
Aww, much sweeter than a gross hairy Tom Hanks shouting out "Wilson" by far.
How heartbreakingly hysterical!
I'm so sorry for the loss of your grandcoconut. Although we knew her time on this earth would be short, it's never easy to lose a loved fruit. And I'm sorry her "organs" couldn't be harvested, but she's in a better place now. She is organic after all.
oh no ... I'm feeling very sad! I do like the new baby though...
Poor Emily. At least she's moved on to babies that need her more. Did she get the ice cream even if it was without coconut. Reminds me of the Simpsons when Homer got a lobster to feed up but ended loving Pinchy, not wanting to kill him. But Homer gave Pinchy a nice warm bath, and the episode ends with Homer crying as he sucks down a huge delicious lobster meal. I'm picturing Emily crying as she eats her coconut sprinkled ice cream.
Poor Michelle and Emily... did she eat ice cream anyway to comfort her in her loss?
And good luck with that caterpillar!
oh that is hilarious!! It is great you took so many pictures so that you can remind her about her baby coconut when she is older!!
I am AMAZED at how long your guy/girl/thingy baby lasted. I think it is awesome that you made this guy/girl/thingy so much a part of your family. As a mom, you rock.
A coconut?! I'm laughing, but I saw your daughter in real tears and that just hurts.
I'm glad you've helped her move on, but perhaps something a little more sturdy and non-rotting could be chosen next time?
Oh, well, obviously she's gunning for princess later in life...like, er, 4 yrs of age...
:)
I'll miss hearing about Michelle's adventures. Although she may not have known me, I feel that in some way I knew her well.
Wait, does that make me sound like a stalker?
Wow! She held on to that coconut for a long time! The picture of her hysterical is just too much!!!
ROFL!!!
I'm sure it was a little heartbreaking for you at the time, but that photo of her desperately grieving the death of her coconut is absolutely hilarious and sweet. Oh, man, does it remind me what it FELT like to be a little kid!
Good freaking grief with the comments already. I have to wait in a line???
We, too, have had quite a few caterpillar friends, who (alas) have gone the way of Michelle's baby.
(And YUCK with the rotten cocojuice in the high chair).
Does she know that Michelle wasn't an Only Coconut. That she has LOTS of brothers and sisters out there, ready for adoption (purchase) at the local grocery store.
But do NOT take her into the baking aisle, where Michelle's cousins have been cruelly slaughtered just so WE CAN HEAT MACAROONS!
(I gotta admit, I was pretty sad to see her go too)
Oh my gosh! That picture of her with the coconut is PRICELESS. This reminds me sooo much of my daughter. For a while, she had six rubber iPod covers that went everywhere with her, and had different personalities. Lately, she's running a snail motel on our deck. She collects them from the yard, puts them on a rock, gives them food and water and babysits the babies until she can find mommies for them. :)
Haha, omg! Poor little Michelle. This made me laugh hysterically, sadly! :)
It was her time! No one is getting out of this thing alive:-)
awww. her face was so sad....
it's amazing the healing power of ice cream though. *L*
RIP, Michelle Paul. You certainly had a better life than most coconuts!!!
