What's the best thing about vacation?

We got home from our California vacation late last night. This morning as the kids and I sat around the breakfast table reminiscing about our adventures I asked them to name their favorite part of the trip. They did not choose:

A) Fabulous sunsets on the beach
B) Catching buckets full of sand crabs
C) Hanging out for an entire week with our very best friends in the world
or
D) Campfires on the beach and making s'mores

Instead they chose this:
Why on earth would this be the highlight of their trip you might be wondering. Look closely. Can you see it? In the bowls...

This was our last morning in Seascape. The kids were hungry for breakfast and there was clearly no way ice cream would make the trip back to the Bay Area. So we did what any good parents would do and fed our kids giant bowls of ice cream for breakfast... With a side of fruit and a glass of orange juice, of course!

The kids were in heaven.

My only regret? I'm just sorry we didn't think of this
without being prompted by end-of-vacation-fridge-cleaning.

Yeah, that's bad parenting, pulling that stunt at the LAST MINUTE.

Sheesh...

Glad you're back :))

Ice cream for breakfast sounds good to me!! And the juice and fruit totally made it healthy!!

Fruit food group and the milk food group! Sounds good and balanced! :)

Desert for breakfast. This concept is new and intrigues me.

I am already hooked on brinner. maybe some Deakfast is worth a try.

Catching sand crabs sounds fun! I think that would be my highlight.

Ice cream for breakfast while in vacation is a very legal manuever!
Funny, when I first looked at this picture and thought you had brought an entire summer camp full of kids with you. Then I saw it was a mirror on the wall. Duh. Going back to bed now. :)

That's awesome, KBexclamationpoint. Welcome back.

PS: my book is being bound today and I'll ship it to you as soon as you send me your address (again). I'm afraid that I put it in a safe place and then promptly forgot where that place was.

Looks like they're in heaven! But ice cream for breakfast? Who wouldn't be?!

Yay! Welcome home! Ice cream for breakfast, sounds like a plan, for me not the kids.

Awww. So jealous that you were in the Bay Area. Looks like you had a great time. That's a lot of kids in one house. Wow.

I also thought you brought a million kids until a closer look to notice the mirror! But even with THAT many kids, YOU needed the ice cream, didn't you? I think you should get a metal for bringing that many kids on vacation! And ice cream needs no special time, does it? Isn't it a staple?

I was worried for you for a minute - I didn't realize that was a mirror and thought that was way too many kids for one vacation!

Glad your back!

I'm SO glad your children will not be calcium deficient. Ice cream for breakfast was a SMART move! Glad y'all had a great time and had safe travels!

There is probably the same amount of sugar in ice cream as in a bowl of cereal, anyway!

Sounds like so much fun!

And here I thought you were going to say, "Seeing Pamela Anderson with her top off."

Dear God, I missed the mirror at first too, and I thought "Kathy has lost her ever-lovin' MIND!"

Ice cream is genius for breakfast. Miss M had chicken nuggets, ketchup and a pickle for brekkie a few days ago. Great minds think alike!

But at least your kids got juice and fruit.

My friend Cailin's family has a tradition for birthdays. For breakfast, on a birthday, they have waffles and ice cream. For breakfast. I love it.

This is proof to my theory that anytime is a good time for ice cream! I've never been as happy as they look over my bowl of raisin bran!

These are the memories vacations are made of! The times when parents break all the normal rules.

Ha! And to think you could have gone on a stay-cation and they still would have had so much fun! And you wouldn't saved hundreds of dollars! Hmmm

That's awesome, good idea!

During my younger, more dissolute days I used to enjoy pizza and beer for breakfast but I do not think I ever smiled as much as the little ones in this photo.

Welcome back! Isn't Ice Cream the breakfast of champions. Doesn't everyone do this, although the fruit is a little weird.
