They said, we said

Today I am playing along with Mayhem and Moxie!

For today’s topic, the lovely ladies at Mayhem and Moxie have asked participants to write a tribute to that special aspect from their summer vacation. This year is a special year for us because it's the first year we've been able to enjoy our vacation together, and also as individuals...
***
This week hubby had business near the coast, so the rest of us did what we always do: tag along!

No one wanted the weekend to end... but we had very different reasons:

We all had ideal breakfasts:

The adults: Coffee and newpaper on the balcony in the balmy sunshine overlooking the beautiful North Carolina coast.

The kids: Breakfast in bed, served by mom, while they watch their own t.v.

We all had spa treatments:

Mom: Rubbed her heels, cracked from a summer of endless flip-flop wearing, in the grainy sand to reveal baby-smooth feet.

Seriously. All you have to do is grind your heels in the wet, beach sand and when you pull them out you have a pefect pedicure and a big, fat lilly between your ankles. It's worth trying.

The kids: The girls have become champion boogie boarders. Unfortunately, riding big waves means you wipeout. As such we have coined the term "spa treatment" for those occasions when events are particularly catastrophic. For example, you might get the "full body exfoliating polish" courtesy of the sand into which the crushing wave grinds your body. Good times.

We all had stellar meals:

The adults: Grouper, softshell crab... yum.

The kids: Had some of this, which I will admit I love... but it's not seafood.

Clearly we all had fun but I have to wonder...

Were we all on the same vacation?

Yeah, your NC sand is no joke.

(And you guys are so lucky with all of your awesome traveling!)

I am not a fan of seafood, it would have been Macca's all the way for me.

But that view while having breakfast? The perfect way to start the day.

I so miss going to the coast for that perfect pedicure! We used to frequent Bald Head Island with the kids..same vacation, just much different views. I have to admit, I've never gotten the lily to spring up between my toes. Did I not rub hard enough???
Great Monday to you!!

Tammy Howard said...

That sounds just about perfect, all the way around.

The hubs is a cutie!

Lindy said...

Not a fan of seafood so I would've enjoyed McDonalds too!

What a view you had! Quite lucky, you are.

You take great pics.
I am glad that someone had great, warm weather!

The Good Cook said...

Glad you had a nice getaway weekend. I too do the beach pedicure treatment... works everytime!

Some McDonald's offer local tastes, so swing by Louisiana if you want to see seafood on their menu (especially shrimp).

Wait, they have the filet-o-fish. That's almost seafood.

It sounds like you guys had an
amazing time!

Young Mom/Wife said...

Love the kids version of a spa treatment, definitely made me laugh. Looks like everyone had a wonderful weekend.

WhisperingWriter said...

Actually, I'd probably prefer McDonalds too. I'm a weirdo and I don't like seafood..

Looks like a fun vacation :)

Helene said...

It sounds like the best kind of vacation there is!! That seafood dish looks scrumptious!!!

Grand Pooba said...

Ha! I'm wondering the same thing! But at least everyone had a good time! Don't know if I'd prefer the breakfast in bed or the coffee on the porch. Both sound enticing to me!

Sara @ Domestically Challenged said...

Sounds perfect. Everyone has a good time, and mamas feet are all pretty!

LadyFi said...

I do love those beach pedicures where your toes sprout lilies... Sounds like a wonderful weekend!

heidi said...

Different strokes for different aged folks, eh? Hey - I wanna know - if I stick my feet in the sand will my THIGHS come out looking like the ones in that pic??

Susie said...

Sounds like a perfect time away for all!!

Man Oh Man...I want one of those magical beach pedicures where I walk on the beach and come out with smooth feet, a flower and apparently a french manicure and a diamond toe ring to boot!

Where do you stay, girl!

Jen said...

I so want a pedicure.

countryfriedmama said...

My husband's business travel takes him to Oklahoma and rural Texas.

We do not tag along.

Sounds like a blast! Glad you enjoyed yourselves.

Sounds like you all had a GREAT time!

what a nice weekend. We have the same kind of spa treatments in Myrtle Beach. There's the beach pedicure, but no gorgeous lillies or french pedicure-like results. Another favorite is riding a roller coaster in the rain for a circulation enhancing facial!

We call them Dadcations.
Last year was Disney World. Here's hoping he gets the same assignment in the spring.

Now THAT sounds like fun. My boyfriend said he may have to go to Dallas for some work training in a couple of weeks and that was my first thought, if he's stuck there for a weekend. I could fly out and see Dallas for the first time ever! Okay, so it's not the coast, but it might be fun.

Cheffie-Mom said...

What a wonderful weekend!! Love the photos!! And Stephanie - Dallas is tons of fun!!

Wow Kathy B! you have beautiful feet.
p.s. had I know you were a Brownie leader I would have volunteered to be your cookie mom. I have YEARS of experience.

And thanks, now I want seafood.

Maybe in parallel universes?

Wow, KB! Thanks for sharing those pics (and is that your hubs? he's so cute!). Glad you had a great time.

I keep trying to pull a lily out of the ground but it's not working.

Laoch of Chicago said...

Wow, breakfast in bed with one's own tv!!! May I call you mom?

Kathy B! said...

Okay people... I've gotten a couple emails about the feet. Those are NOT MY FEET! And let's not even get started on that body... none of it is mine. I didn't want to scare anyone with the reality shot :)

buffalodick said...

Very un-momlike photo of feet and lilly... You still got it momma! Glad you know you are still an individual, and a great mom too!

Jane said...

Oh that sounds like MY kind of vacation! And the pictures were wonderful - now I'm craving coffee on the balcony, listening to the surf. Why oh why is vacation so far away?

I've gotta get me some wet sand. I could use a perfect pedicure.

I'm glad you had a good break. You need to take a mini vacation once in a while just to regroup.

Stacy (the Random Cool Chick) said...

I was almost lulled into relaxation mode by this post... almost. Now to find that beach for the perfect pedicure and lily and I'm all set! ;)

Sounds like a wonderful little getaway that was thoroughly enjoyed by all...which makes it perfect! ;)

I will absolutely try this beach pedicure next time I am at the shore. I could surely use some foot softening.

Kameron said...

I want a big fat lily between my feet! That sounded way different in my head.

Danielle said...

I am not sure which one I am more jealous of. The kids vacation or the adults.

Amy said...

What a fun Summer you had.

M-Cat said...

Those kinds of vacay's are the absolute BEST!

March is when we are taking our. Elder will be home. He speaks Spanish so he and younger brother can go off and do whatever they want and I don't have to leave the beach if I don't want to!!

Mama Kat said...

I'll take the adult version please!! Sounds nice!

potential new blogger said...

Just enjoying Tuesday's Tribute!!

I'd take the adult version too.

Mayhem and Moxie said...

Doesn't McDonald's still serve the fish sandwich. Because if they do, then that totally falls into the seafood category.

Oh, and I had no idea that you were a foot model too, Kathy B! Your talents are seemingly endless. :)

Gibby said...

I'm so glad you clarified the feet pic, because I was just at the beach and let me just say, my feet do NOT look anything like that!

Sounds like a wonderful time for all!

Felicia said...

Where do you stay? We go to Ocracoke every summer.. LOVE IT THERE!!

Bill and Lorie Shewbridge said...

I just LOVE coffee on the balcony with the sun in the background, then sunset over the water at night sitting on the balcony with a drink while on vacation.
Even if you did take different vacations, as long as you came home happy, that ALL that matters.
Great pictures, thanks for sharing.
