Por favor?

I haven't really talked about my past much on my blog. I wasn't a prostitute, or a drug addict, or a child movie star. But I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in my early 20's. I had some surgery. And some chemo. And I got better... I'm thankful every day, but it isn't something I spend much time thinking about. Frankly, it was a long time ago and it feels very surreal in retrospect. The older I get the more I understand just how serious it was. If I'm being truthful I'll tell you that is frightens me to my core to think about how things might have ended...

***

Jessica Bern contacted me the other day. She asked me to request help from my lovely readers. You see, Jessica was contacted by Seventh Generation, the company that makes environmentally friendly cleaning products, diapers and now tampons. They asked if she would make a video for them for their campaign, "Let's Talk....Period." And she did!

Honestly, I would have sent you over to watch even if she was selling dryer lint. She is a wonderful comedienne, and I am proud to call her a friend. She's also a fellow blogger who got a shot to do something awesome as a direct result of her blog. All those reasons alone are enough for me to send you over there. But if you head over and sign up you'll have the opportunity to make a difference for the 22,000 women who will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer this year.

Please head over to letstalkperiod.com, watch her wonderful video from “Aunt Flo”— and then please sign up (it's only three clicks). If you do, Seventh Generation will make a donation on your behalf to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.

Do it because she's funny.

Do it for me.

But if that's not enough, then do it for the 22,000 women
who'll have their world rocked with a horrifying and deadly diagnosis this year.

Do it for them.

I love Jessica. I don't mean to rub it in your face, meaning, of course I do, but she called me when I didn't make my NYC trip because we were supposed to meet up for breakfast.

She is amazing.

First, I am so glad you Survived.

My Mother fought 'it' for sixteen years. I swear it's a hit & miss kind of thing. The lady who used to sit next to her was cured.

Life is Amazing sometimes isn't it ..

I love what Seventh Generation does for the things we put in and on our bodies. Think of the alternatives.
And I'm glad they're raising awareness of ovarian cancer. Breasts are great and all, but they get all the attention, cancerous and otherwise. So three cheers for ovaries. Or, two, maybe, so it comes out even...

That must have been a very scary time in your life! Can't imagine.

Thanks for the heads up on her site. I will definitely check it out. Anything that helps woman and the environment is deserving of all our support.

Oh, I hate to be intrusive but am curious. Did you get to keep your ovaries? They had me in surgery before all my bloodwork even came back based on the ultrasounds. I still have one though.

Sadly, I can never get videos to do well on my pc but, while skipping the video I will sign up.

I believe that a hundred years from now, people will find it unbelievable that we once used radiation to attempt to cure people. "We're hoping this kills the bad stuff before it kills you completely." They used radiation in my treatment, and I wonder if its responsible for some of my lingering problems.

Aunt Flo has got me out of a lot of things, especially back in high school. Gotta love her for that, at least! Love it! The one about sex with her hub is hilarious! BTW... you've been tagged. Sorry, I'm a day late on it, can be seen at my Tuesday post. http://motherofthemunchkins.blogspot.com/2009/09/ive-been-tagged.html

My aunt also had ovarian cancer and survived it, but wouldn't quit smoking and eventually passed of lung cancer and melanoma (she lived in FL and didn't wear sunscreen, but golfed every day).
I am so glad you survived this devastating disease!!
And thank you SO much for sharing this wonderful opportunity from a wonderful company. I'd like to link it up on my blog, so my readers can also participate.
Have a wonderful weekend!!
