How old do you think I am anyway?!

The six Belinskis are in Washington D.C. for a few days. Our goal over this break is to see how many times we can push daddy's buttons before he stops inviting us on business trips. I think we're close.

Today we arrived in the city and were viewing some of the landmarks from the car before heading out to view them on foot. We passed the White House and the kids were in awe as they glimpsed snippets of the architecture as we passed by from the side:

Abby: Whoa! That's the White House?! That's where president Obama lives?!

Dad: Yes, president Obama lives right there with Mrs. Obama -- and their two daughters, too!

Hannah: That is so entirely cool! Mommy or Daddy? I want one of you two to become president so we can live there. That would be awesome.

Mom: (Loving the fact that she included mom as a potential candidate. Loving the fact that it doesn't even occur to her that a woman can't do this.)

Dad: How about you become president and we'll all come live with you in the White House instead?

Mom: (Loving that response even more! Way to empower those girls, daddy-o!)

Rachel: That's a great idea! They could just turn one of the wings into a nursing home for when Hannah has her four years.

Mom and Dad: WHAT?! (And then utter silence as we wrapped our heads around the zinger she'd just unleashed)

Rachel was smart enough to stop and offer nothing more than a smug grin. When you've nailed the punchline, really knocked it out of the park, sometimes the best thing you can do is let it ride ...

As they say, "Be good to your kids, 'cause they'll choose your nursing home."

The White House would be a pretty cool nursing home.

I think that comment is grounds for impeachment.

Be glad you will be living inside the White House, even if its the Nursing Home Wing of it.
Have fun in DC!

She's quick. At least she's assuming you'd live with them. As opposed to being shipped off to some out-of-state 20/20 hidden-camera type nursing home.

Oh she's a quick and sassy one! LOVE IT! Tell her I think she is FABULOUS!

The Belinskis go to Washington! How fun. And you've definitely got a handful with those bright chicks!

Hilarious! She's quite the politician already. And hey, being a White House nursing home patient would be awesome. All of the perks with none of the responsibilities of running the free world. I wonder what your code name would be? You know, that name that Secret Service gives everyone but then tells the entire world what it is?

I'm sure Anon Mom could come up with one.

Wow, she's good! Quick wit is hereditary you know!

I wonder where she gets that from? Hmmmmmm.

K said...

Excellent!

At least she didn't say you couldn't come live with her.

Enjoy my hometown. DC is great.

Why do the kids always come up with the zingers? Little whippersnapper! I actually laughed out loud. I wonder if that nursing home will allow visitors?
Enjoy your trip!

Now that is funny. You got a good one there.

Funny conversation. At least she is giving you both something to look forward to. In this economy it's very reassuring to know that someone will take care of you when you can't take care of yourself anymore.

Haha! Yes! Atta girl!

You can't say the kid isn't quick. Of course, if she was smart she would have just whispered it to a sister.

I wonder where that lightning quick wit comes from?! :)

Zing! She's one smart cookie. One who needs a little nudge away from the smart mouth realm, hmmm? :-)

She cracks me up!

Nursing home!! HAHHAHAHHAHA! LOVE your kids!

ScoMan said...

Yes, your husband did well to catch that one and empower the kids =D

And my only suggestion would be that turning a WHOLE wing into a nursing home for one might be a bit much, other than that it is priceless!

Donnetta said...

So if the whole wing is turned into a nursing home and the in laws could be included - y'all could have QUITE the parties!!!

Man, I'm lame today...I had to re-read that sentence like 4 times to finally get it!! She's witty, that one!!!

Is it the weekend yet?

*LOL* your kids are SASSY. Love it! Had to read it out to my hubby, he had a good chuckle over it too.

BTW he loves the coconut baby too! :)

That's awesome....classic. Funny kids are the greatest.

Just remind her, it's the President who goes gray in their first term. She best be careful who she's designating to the nursing home!

WhisperingWriter said...

Very funny.

I wish my husband went on cool business trips. Right now he's in Texas but we wouldn't have been able to come. He's training how to work with those big scary dogs and I think I'd flip out if they came too close to me.

Have a great time!
