The final score

The other night was an average night in the world according to me. The kids were in bed and I:

*Plopped onto the couch and kicked my feet up on the coffee table,
*Sipped my glass of wine,
*Noticed a baseball game on tv,
*Felt my eyelids begin to droop as I slipped into a semi-comatose state. Baseball has the magical abiliy to transform me from a chatty and energetic KathyB! into a catatonic lump in nothing flat.

It's a wonder Pat doesn't watch it more often.

***

I hadn't fully completed the transition to my zombie-state when something on the screen caught my eye. Grasping desperately to stay coherent I attempted to start a conversation.

KathyB! What a shame! What did the park used to be called?

Pat: What are you talking about?!

KathyB! You know... Like when they changed Candlestick Park to 3Com Park... I like the old, traditional park names much better. Besides who can even keep up with all the names. Didn't they change Candlestick to Monster Park...?

Pat: That was years ago, Kathy. It's still Candlestick. And what are you talking about?!?

KathyB!: (a tad of annoyance creeping into her voice) Chan Ho Park. What was the original name?

KathyB!: (thinks to herself) For cyin' out loud, this isn't rocket science. Follow along hubster.

Pat: (an equal amount of annoyance in his voice) What.... ?!

And then, he saw the light. His face burst into an ear-to-ear grin.

It would be fair to say he looked smug.

Pat: The pitcher is Chan Ho Park. They're playing at Yankee Stadium.

Final score of the 2009 World Series?
Pat: 1
Kathy: 0

LOL!!! I love listening to baseball, so soothing.

They should have a law against confusing things like that, just like people named Major shouldn't be allowed to join the military.

Cairo Typ0 said...

Totally understandable misunderstanding. LOL Of course, if he ever has a park named after him it will be the Park Park. :p

Classic! Very fun. I may have to tell that one to my hubby :)

What kind of name is that?!?!

Alyson (New England Living) said...

That's funny! Being from the bay area, I was bummed about the 3 Com thing.

JC said...

I love going to baseball games but on tv ... let's just say that if I wasn't home, I'd be bored easily.

It's the atmosphere of being at the park ... whichever name it currently is ... and the people and the whole adventure ... that makes a game for me.

And, I think you get a point for even remembering what name any park is now adays ...

baseball puts me to sleep too. Chan Ho Park....sounds more like a place where hookers would bring there johns.

Danielle said...

Now that is funny. I would have thought the same thing.

Lindy said...

It was the wine talking. It had to be.

evenshine said...

Ditto- MUST have been the wine. Cause it couldn't have ANYthing to do with the fabulousness that is KB!
(And come ON, who is Chan HO anyway???)

Debbie said...

You are such a hoot!

Gibby said...

Damn Yankees.
Oh wait, that's not what your post was about...

Whoops!!! Go back to sleep, Kathy B.!

What I love about this is that it is like the most famous coversation ever about Baseball... Whose on first.

Tammy Howard said...

Tammy: 0 as well - I would've jumped to the same conclusion - even without wine and grogginess...

I have a couple of those fopoux moments too and even 30 some odd years later he still brings them up to get a laugh.

Tsquared417 said...

Hilarious!! See, this is why we fall asleep and don't even try.

Lagunatic said...

You know, some Asian names are actually last name first which could lead you to confuse this guy with a request to a hooker valet service: Park ho, Chan.

Yes, wine....everything is better with wine...and I'm REALLY hoping you all drank a LOT of it before reading my joke.

One is sad to hear about the tragic case of baseball droopiness.

TKW said...

That's hilarious! Thanks for the giggle today!

I laughed out loud at this post. This sooooooo could have been a conversation at our house!

K said...

I totally have similar experiences in our house, only it's football and the steelers.

It doesn't matter how much sleep I've gotten, I pass out instantly when there on.

Nana said...

Yeah, most conversations don't go to well when you are half asleep. LOL!!

That's funny!!!

Chan Ho Park?

That sounds like a restaurant.

Too funny! Sounds like something that would go on in my world.

ROTFL, however, since we're talking baseball, I have to take off my own cap, place it over my heart, and say, like a dedicated fan of a team that....well....needs....help, if not just an outright enema....I still love my KC ROYALS! World Series....Royals....one day! (Yep, that was all wine induced, too, but I'm awake, possibly delusional, and I DO love my ROYALS!)

CynthiaK said...

Now that's the solution! I must watch baseball to fall asleep! Who knew!

Nice work on the Park, KathyB. You're a trooper for even trying to engage in the conversation in the first place, especially when so tired. Have another glass of wine for being such a good wife. :)

Hahaha! That's awesome. I don't think my husband likes it when I watch football with him because I ask way too many questions.

Football does it to me... I mean, come on, how long does it take to score some runs.. I mean, goals, whatever... snooze...

Zeemaid said...

first of all.. hockey does that to me.... hey I do live in Canada but it doesn't mean I have to love the sport. *L*

Second... I would have made the same mistake. ;)

Stupid sports! They always trip a good wife up. That's why I always have a trump card up my sleeve: "Well, at least I still root for the same teaam I did as a girl." Granted, I don't know much about them.

We have an arena here in Orlando that has changed names so many times that I can never remember what it is called... Right now it is the Amway Arena. Really, AMWAY?? Like in laundry detergent?

This, dear KathyB, is exactly something I would do. In fact, during the world series, I asked a fellow coworker, a macho sports fiend at that, who was playing in the world series. He now thinks I am seriously inept.
