Come play in my world for awhile!

I'm starting to see a trend

It started with these little guys. They were purchased for a first grade science unit. The little fishies obligingly reproduced and taught the children what they needed to know. So when the teacher casually mentioned that she was going to flush them down the toilet at the end of the school year, I offered to take them. The teacher told me they would only live a couple of weeks anyway...

The water in my house must be like the fountain of freaking youth, because I must have at least 50 guppies swimming around now.

Then came these little guys. When I took the four kittens in I honestly thought at least one was going to die. I thought I was keeping them warm and safe so that they could pass in peace. Apparently, I thought wrong. We still have two.

Then came this little friend. I was taking two of my daughters to the orthodontist and there was a cute little bird sitting right smack dab in the middle of the street! As we drew closer I was surprised he didn't fly away. When we walked right up to it I was officially concerned. I couldn't very well just leave him sitting there to be squashed by a car, could I?

I got the girls situated with the orthodontist and headed back to the street armed with some of the dentist's latex gloves to save the sweet little bird. I scooped him up and put him under a tree to rest while I went back to check on the girls. I also needed to find a small box to carry him home...

Thankfully, he was gone when I got back. I already have a beaver/rabbit, and two kittens on the back porch.

Plus, I think Pat might make me sleep on the porch if I bring any more animals home.

I think I need to send my oldest daughter to live with you. She'd bring in every stray critter or half-squashed bug she finds if I let her. But, OMG, how could anyone resist that kitten???

Awww... your heart is so soft. I like that!

i am the diva said...

but you're such a sweetheart for saving them....

Lindy said...

Why couldn't you just put the bird in your fanny pack?

That's so nice that you save all these strays and give them a home. :) Def good karma!

You have such a good heart to take in so many strays:-)

Hi, I am a new reader to your blog. I just wanted to tell you that I think you are awesome. Saving animals is something that takes a very big heart to do, and the world needs more people like you...even if they all have to sleep on the porch.

You are the Animal Whisperer!

Lindy brings up a good point, kbexclamationpoint. And I'm pretty sure your fanny pack had a mesh lining, didn't it? Surely an animal could live and breathe comfortably in there. Pat wouldn't even have to know.

:)

Pretty soon the birds, butterflies, squirrels, rabbits and deer will start following you. You are fucking Snow White, dude!

I'm so glad there are people like you to save the animals.....my daughter is the same way and while my heart breaks we simply can not take in another stray!

Ok, so you take animals in ... the most important thing is ... What are their names ? The cats ... if you're naming the fish .. than, that's when I'll come over and talk to you ...

You obviously have a magic touch!

And OMG - the eyes on that kitten!! No wonder you couldn't let it go! I'd be keeping that little cutie, too! :)

You forgot to mention all your pet "snakes" that live in your yard. Just tell your husband that cats TOTALLY hunt mice AND snakes.

I have to stay away from shelters and anywhere there are poor defenseless animals or I'd be arrested for hoarding animals.

What an adorable kitten. I totally would have kept two too.

(And my husband would have not been happy either).

Never keep guppies without angel fish. They are sort of guppy birth control in a morbid sort of way.

Animals can spot a soft touch coming a mile way. They always know who will take care of them, and find a way into their lives.

It's almost as if animals seek you out!!! You just have a big heart...nothing wrong with that!

There is always room for one more.

What a great example you're setting for your girls!

You are an old softie... check the back of your car.. when my kidadults were littles I swear they tied hot dogs to my exhaust pipe as every stray puppy followed us home!

We used to catch sparrows with bait, box, stick, and string trap...Then we'd immediately let them go..I was about 7 yrs. old! Always loved animals, too..

You have such a big heart and that's why we love you so!!

You have a soft heart and it's wonderful!

I wonder if someone slept in your home if they would have an easier time getting prego. I'm going to send a few people I know over to your place to find out

Just be thankful that the coconut that was eating you out of house and home died...

Suzy said...

Maybe people with swine flu should go to your place. You clearly have a gift for healing. I can't believe that teacher said she was going to flush the fish. She probably lied about their longevity.

You have such a kind heart KathyB! I'm sure that little birdie appreciated your help. What a great pic of your cat! It looks professional.

It seems you have a regular menagerie! You don't by any chance want a dog do you? She's house trained! ;-)

I inherited a frog through a class project once. He lived until two weeks before the next school year began. I couldn't believe it. After all that, he died right in the home stretch. So sad.

I'm wondering how well the rabbit is enjoying the new company? The fish probably don't bother her... but those kittens might outgrow her someday! ;)

I think I'll start calling you Dr. Doolittle instead of Kathy B. :D

What a cute little birdy!

Yes, it has been close to a million years since I've commented on your blog. You do know I love you, right? And after reading this one, love you more. Sheesh, I thought I was a bleeding heart for animals! Of course I am not permitted to bring them home so I'll just live vicariously through you!

Sounds like our house.

We had the tadpole -- you know the kind you get in a kit -- and had the frog for five years! The salamander is going on three. Not to mention the dogs, the cat and the guinea pig.

I keep telling the kids if we get any more pets, we'll have to charge admission.

Great post.

You better go buy yourself a pregnancy test with all that multipyling around your house, who knows.

I do the same thing w/ animals it drives Papa crazy!

You are too giving and sweet. Your going to have a little petting zoo soon.

CynthiaK said...

It's a zoo in there! Literally! You are just too compassionate. And for the record, that is one cute kitten in that photo.

So glad you're back online & bloggin'!

You're so sweet and cute! A regular animal rescuer. I'll send you my brother's number because his wife is just like that and then you can just pass the animals to her. Not like I've ever done that.

Gibby said...

Well, how could you say no to the eyes on that kitten?

Wild kingdom at your house!! The kitty has beautiful blue eyes.

I have never liked fish because you can not take them out and pet them.

Sorry for being so MIA around your blog. I have been having a hard time being focused in blogland.

Honestly, one of those girls in your house is destined to become a veterinarian. It will happen because it must. :)

I didn't realize you had such a soft heart for animals.......bet your kids LOVE that about you!

Wow, I thought we were bad because we let ourselves be adopted by a stray kitty. I can't imagine not saving the kitty and I also would have taken the fish.
At least the bird was probably okay and flew away.
A few weeks ago I came across a dead cat in the road and was compelled to move it to the side of the road. I didn't want anyone coming along and well, you know. Poor kitty.
