Super Mama?

This week has been a monster. Middle school has been like opening Pandora's box: Shaving legs, cell phones, dances... Each one of these could merit a post in and of itself, but I'm so overwhelmed by it that, frankly, I haven't earned the perspective to write it.

And then I stumbled across Mama Kat's writing prompt:

If you could be a superhero,
what would your superpower be and why?

I want to control time - I want to rewind to the blissful days of infancy, but skip the sleepless nights and colicky days. I want to fast-forward through ridiculous battles of will, and freeze time and savor last weekend at the beach.

I want to read minds - I want to know the monkey-business before the kids have a chance to do more than think about it. As the mother of four girls who are roaring towards the teen years, I'd pay a very steep price for this power.

I want to move without making sound - That way when the little miscreants were up to no good I could sneak up on them and scare the sh*t out of them. If you' re gonna have superpowers you should get to have some fun. Right?

And since we're having fun...

I want to be able to control technology with my mind - Between my well documented battles with the bloggy gods and my latest (undocumented) issues with feedburner... Let's just say the wine budget's been a little, um, inflated.

I don't know what this fabulous foursome of powers would be called. At the moment?

I'd call it perfection.

I definitely would not want to read minds. There are some times when ignorance is bliss!

OK so when you achieve all that, can you come and see me, cos I got some things I want you to do....

:))

Prepare to be jealous.

I can move without making a sound. Quickly too. I'm like the ninja of accounting.

So often I have stood behind someone in at the office for a few minutes before saying their name and giving them a heart attack.

Okay, so I admit, my power is probably limited to carpeted surfaces.

I'm so with you on the time one!! I'd love to be able to keep mine at their ages (3 1/2 yrs and 5 months) for just a little longer!

I call it being a Mom!

Freezing time is my favorite super power!! I only need this one power! Although....

Time sometimes freezes in my math classroom :-( I try to keep it flowing.

Oh these are good ones! I choose read the minds of others. I'm dying to know what my two year old is always thinking!!!

I'd like a rewind too, let me know when you achieve that and are willing to share.

I'd also like the power to clean the house without lifting a finger and to make meals appear by picturing them in my mind. Sure that would probably mean a lot of brownie-based dining, but if I don't have to clean up, who cares?

When you discover where to get these magical powers, can you please share? I'm so with you on all of it...I keep trying to put the future years out of my head, but they keep nudging me and snickering... ;)

Hmm... what would my super power be? I want to be a real witch (like Bewitched) instead of just being called one.

:-)

I'm with you on everything but the mind reading. I would so not want to read my kid's minds...I'm sure I don't want to know what's going on up there!

Sounds perfect!

Seriously? This is not ALL that much to ask for. I mean, we did give birth - surely there's some kind of prize involved.

I don't think the world needs another "Super Dick", so I'll pass on this one... :)

It's nice to dream, right?? LOL!

ymK said...

Yeah I would not like to read minds either. But the rest of the superpowers, could you share with me too?

Mayhem and Moxie said...

Are you telling me that you don't already have all of these powers? My vision of you is shattered.

:)

LadyFi said...

Control time would be good... just imagine being able to freeze it in order to get all those things done!

TKW said...

Shaving legs??!!!! Ack, you just made my mind go somewhere in the future that I DO NOT want to see...

I like your powers. It would be great to read someone's mind for sure. I can't wait for the show to begin tonight either. I need to get some wine. Sounds great.

Com'on, you don't want to fly? Everybody wants to fly right?

Janie Woods said...

I like the freeze time one...I think flying would be awesome! Wouldn't want the mind reading because if it isn't about me, there's no sense in knowing it..

Glad the dancing made the Blog Gods happy!! Where's the video?

Cheffie-Mom said...

Can I have these powers, too? Please? LOL!

As my mothers says, "little babies, little problems. Bigger babies, bigger problems." In other words, it only gets harder as they get older. I love your superpowers. That time control things would work wonders for me. I couldn't agree with you more on most of them! I think we can call you QuadControl.

Love the time idea. Brilliant!

I want to fly and have a tail that sprinkles glitter everywhere I walk.

Two simple words - phase sharting.

Did you ever think, when you were going through them, that the infancy years were gonna be the easiest? It kills me every time I think of how I wasted those comparatively easy days...

Jen said...

Are you sure that you would want to be able to read everyone's mind? I think that that would be a cool talent but I also think it would be VERY dangerous.

Anonymous said...

You would be a god! Wow!

Kacey said...

If you figure out to get these powers can you fill us all in? Please.... ;D

Lani said...

Those sure would be some handy talents to have:) I would like the ability to induce complete and total silence with a point of my finger:)

Perfect! Can I be your trusty sidekick!?

I like these powers.

And all I thought of is fly and have a force field so the bugs wouldn't splat on my face when I flew.

Kate Coveny Hood said...

I like you power choices. But I don't know if I'd be brave enough to read minds.

Me: "does this make me look fat"

Friend: "no! you look great! (really thinking - "no, THAT doesn't make you look fat, but you just kind or are...")

I might have to re-write this post and elaborate based on some of these comments! This is a fun topic :)

First timer here:

I want to move without making sound - That way when the little miscreants were up to no good I could sneak up on them and scare the sh*t out of them.

That's some good stuff. Best laugh I had all day.

Zip n Tizzy said...

Now would that be "Bless her heart... She's a mind reader" or, "She's a mind reader, Bless her heart."

Apparently their's a difference ;)

My goals are much less grand. I would like the power to eat food that is bad for me.

kristi said...

I would want to heal all the sick children, and my son included.

Crazee Juls said...

OMG!--I wanna be that kind of super hero!

mommakin said...

I just want the power to always know what the right thing to do is and then to have the strength to do it. I don't want to constantly fear that I'm making a mistake and doing it wrong.

Also? I'd like long sculpted legs to hold up a killer bod and thick shiny hair. It might not make me a better mom, but you never know...

Danielle said...

I would kill to be invisible for so many reasons.

KatBouska said...

Moving without making sound is an awesome one! How many times have I tried to "sneak" out of a room and woken sleeping babies!?! Too often.

Wait...did you say shaving legs? As in, your girls? As in, already????
